This is second of the five Modules that create the Integral Permaculture Curriculum It is the basic version that contains 4 classes of 10. You can find all of them in the Advanced Course.   Do I really need to learn about design theory to do Permaculture? Isn't just doing what needs doing right now good enough? Truly doing Permaculture is based in really designing consciously, effectively & powerfully to truly change the world, and not just copying what others have done before - but this requires understanding the process of developing a really good design. So, we all need to be really effective designers, but what is required for that?  What truly works or doesn't?   In this module we study the criteria of functional design, and the true meaning & conditions for designing integrated and sustainable systems, and through the lens of Permaculture we will take a look at different ways of thinking about design, resources, human interventions in systems and integrating the social aspects with the physical, energetic and abstract components of any real-life project.   OVERVIEW Through this module, you will explore different questions such as:
  • What is Design?  & How can we Re-Design a whole society?
  • What kind of maps and graphic representations do we have at our disposal to design with?
  • What are our real motivations behind each design? What influence does our world-view have on this?
  • And how do our daily objectives & criteria fit in all this?
  • What design structures do we have available?  And how can we use them effectively?
  • How do we ensure Optimal Resource use and best Choice of Materials, Interventions & Technologies?
  • What does observing consist of?  And how can we do it effectively?
  • How do we apply the fundamental Principles to Permaculture Design?
  • How can we Evaluate our designs, accurately and productively?
  • Which Design Techniques do I have at my disposal?  & How can I know when to apply them?
